I’d like to take a moment here to celebrate diversity, to fully appreciate the results of varied cultural backgrounds and ethnicities, to admire the stunning creations that arise from the inspiration generated by culture.
This, my friends, is a submarino. It is a cup of extremely hot, frothy milk which has been tortured by some sort of coffee machine device and then, the penultimate: slightly bitter chocolate which melts at low temperatures has been put into the glass. You get a long spoon and a cookie. Don’t bother with the cookie. You can stir up the milk and chocolate concoction, sure, but to no avail. The two will not mix. Some of the chocolate will particlize and float in the milk, but most of it gathers in gooey, melty, wonderfully chocolatey strands at the bottom of the cup. So, you sip hot milk, and then spoon up a little incredibly rich and slightly bitter chocolate. Sip. Spoon. Sip. Spoon. If done correctly, when you reach the bottom of the glass, you will have one last swill of runny, mildly warm chocolate. You will cast a derisive glance at the cookie and request your check. And the best part – this is not some specialty fancy drink in a clever restaurant with dim lighting. No, this drink is everywhere. I even ordered one in an Irish pub. Let’s hear it for cultural exchange!
